About the Project

Knygadvaris is a webpage meant to present the users with a unique possibility to leaf through Jonas Basanavičius folklore heritage. The title of the webpage is taken from a Lithuanian fairy tale (AT 510), published by J. Basanavičius in his collection of folktales. The fairy tale relates of a young girl, who asserts to have come from the ‘manor of books’ (Lit. knygų dvaras).
Knygadvaris is created as part of the project “The Digital Library of Lithuanian Folklore by Jonas Basanavičius”, the subject of which is the treasury of Lithuanian folklore by Jonas Basanavičius.
The aim of the project is transferring the folkloric and scientific heritage of Jonas Basanavičius into the virtual space and making it an effective tool of folkloristic and cultural research and the publicly available object of Lithuanian non-material cultural heritage.
The venue of the project implementation is the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. The partner of the project is the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
The project is supported by the Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation. The leader of the project is Jūratė Šlekonytė, PhD (Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore). The tasks of system programming are supervised by docent Nerutė Kligienė (Institute of Mathematics and Informatics).
